| The Law Society of Kenya is the premier bar association and legal development agency in Kenya. The Society is established by an Act of Parliament – The Law Society of Kenya Act (Chapter 18 of the Laws of Kenya). The Law Society of Kenya is a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal and with power to sue and be sued in its corporate name.
The Law Society of Kenya has an extensive and longstanding mandate to advise and assist members of the legal profession, the government and the public in all matters relating to the law and administration of justice in Kenya. The Law Society of Kenya has, among others, a specific statutory mandate to protect and assist the public in Kenya in all matters touching, ancillary or incidental to the law. In this regard, the Law Society of Kenya has played a pivotal role in legal and socio-economic development in Kenya. We have made a tremendous contribution to the evolution of constitutionalism, democracy, rule of law and respect for human rights in Kenya. In the 1980s and early 1990s, the advocacy of the Law Society of Kenya contributed to the termination of single-party rule and the consequent restoration of multiparty democracy in Kenya. Since then, Law Society of Kenya continues to play an essential and independent role in national governance and justice issues.
